Lagos State College of Nursing (LASCON), Igando, has conducted its annual entrance examination for candidates seeking admission into the 2025/2026 academic session.
The Computer Assisted Screening (CAS) exercise took place on Saturday within the college premises, drawing a large pool of hopeful students who had earlier sat for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations.
Before the start of the test, the Provost of LASCON, Dr Ayodeji Ogunmuyiwa, told candidates that only those who scored 200 and above in JAMB and selected the college as their first choice were eligible to participate. She said the institution was committed to a rigorous and uncompromising admission process that guarantees merit-based selection.
“The nursing profession is not for the faint-hearted. Only candidates who are capable and fit to undertake the course will be admitted,” Ogunmuyiwa declared. “We are determined to produce competent nurses who can compete globally and contribute to strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system.”
She urged candidates to approach the screening with seriousness, assuring them that LASCON provides both the human and material resources needed to train world-class professionals.
Also present was Comrade Awojide Olurotimi, a member of the college’s Governing Council, who praised both staff and students for the peaceful conduct of the exercise despite the large turnout. He said the orderly atmosphere underscored the credibility of the process.
“I commend the candidates for presenting themselves in an organised manner without any incident,” he said, urging them to remain patient and focused as the outcome will be strictly merit-driven.
The entrance exam marks the first stage in the admission process for prospective nursing students. Successful applicants will proceed to further screening and interviews before final placement.
The Lagos State government has in recent years intensified investment in medical education and training as part of efforts to boost the state’s healthcare workforce. Nursing, in particular, has been highlighted as a priority field amid growing demand for qualified professionals both locally and internationally.
