Again, a fire incident on Tuesday razed six rooms at Akinsoji zone, Ogbere Moradeyo, Oremeji community, in the Egbeda Local Government Area of Oyo State.

As gathered, the inferno started around 5:30 am following the indiscriminate dropping of a cigarette stub by one of the occupants of the building.

An eyewitness, Tunji Bamgbade, stated that no lives were lost, but six rooms within the residential building were severely affected by the fire.

He said: “Six rooms were affected before the arrival of firefighters, while properties worth millions of naira were also destroyed.”

Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, stated that the fire was reported at about 5:55 a.m. on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, when a caller, identified as Mr Kayode, alerted officials about a house engulfed in flames at the location.

“Immediately the address was taken, firemen led by CFS Adesina Olusoji promptly deployed to the place. On getting there, it was a private residential building of six rooms engulfed by fire, and our officers swung into action and restricted the fire from spreading to other nearby buildings.

“The fire was jointly extinguished with Federal Fire Service, Ibadan Command and a lecture on fire prevention was delivered by the officer in charge.

“No casualty was recorded, and the cause of the fire was traced to the indiscriminate dropping of a cigarette stub by one of the occupants, which ignited nearby combustibles and set the building on fire.”
