Lawyers set to chart path for Nigeria’s energy reforms

The Lawyers in Energy International Conference (L.E.I.C.A.) 2025 is set to gather leading voices across law, governance, and business in a high-level dialogue on the future of Nigeria’s oil, gas, and power industries.

The conference, scheduled for October 22, 2025, at the Metropolitan Club, Lagos, will run under the theme: “Law, Risk and Reform: Shaping Nigeria’s Energy Sector for Sustainable Prosperity.”

Unlike traditional forums, the organisers said L.E.I.C.A. 2025 is designed to move beyond speeches and presentations, focusing instead on practical strategies, risk frameworks, and actionable insights to navigate what is regarded as one of the world’s most complex energy markets.

Chairperson, Local Organizing Committee for LEICA 2025, Dolapo Kukoyi, said Nigeria’s energy sector sits at the crossroads of reform and regulation.

“L.E.I.C.A. 2025 will serve as a platform where policymakers, regulators, and industry leaders can align on frameworks that not only attract capital but also guarantee transparency, compliance, and long-term stability for the sector. Our task is to turn policy into practice,” Kukoyi said.

Participants will include Ministers, regulators, CEOs, senior lawyers, financiers, insurers, and policy strategists.  She added that discussions will centre on how ongoing reforms are shaping investment flows, whether governance and compliance standards can meet global ESG demands, and the risk management models required to safeguard capital and operations in today’s volatile energy economy.

“At a time when investors are weighing risk against opportunity, L.E.I.C.A. 2025 will bring the clarity and confidence they need. By uniting legal minds, financial institutions, and energy operators, the conference is designed to highlight where real value lies and how reforms can translate into bankable projects for the sector’s growth and sustainability,” Kukoyi said.

Since its inception, the L.E.I.C.A. platform has bridged the gap between policy aspirations and commercial realities for the legal and energy communities.

The 2025 edition, organisers said, will sharpen its focus on regulation, governance, financing, dispute resolution, and economic growth, factors critical to unlocking the potential of Nigeria’s vast energy resources.
