Abducted former Imo lawmaker regains freedom

A former member of the Imo State House of Assembly, Ngozi Ogbu, has regained his freedom after being abducted by suspected gunmen last week.

The state police command confirmed his release yesterday through its spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, who disclosed that Ogbu, a former Chairman of Okigwe Council, was freed on Wednesday night.

Okoye added that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, were intensifying efforts to track down the perpetrators. He reassured the public of the command’s commitment to sustaining peace and security in the state.

The abductors were said to have demanded the redeployment of security personnel from the Okigwe area as a condition for Ogbu’s release. However, it was unclear at the time of filing this report whether any ransom was paid, as neither Ogbu nor his family had spoken publicly.
