Recurring incidents of banditry, kidnapping, and other security threats have compelled the Kwara State Government to relocate the 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream II National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp from its permanent site in Yikpata, Edu Local Government Area, to the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin.
State Coordinator of NYSC, Mr. Onifade Joshua, announced the decision in a statement on Thursday, disclosing that about 1,800 corps members are expected in the state for the 21-day exercise.
“This decision became necessary due to recent security concerns around the permanent orientation camp,” Onifade said, describing those behind the threats as “perpetrators and enemies of progress.”
He assured prospective corps members and their parents of adequate security and a smooth exercise, noting that armed soldiers and other security personnel would be deployed to protect participants throughout the program.
Onifade commended both the federal and state governments for their support, stressing that preparations are in top gear to receive corps members, who are expected to arrive between Wednesday, September 24, and Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
“The NYSC management appreciates the relentless efforts of the state government and security agencies in addressing insecurity challenges in parts of Kwara State. However, the temporary relocation is necessary to allay the fears of our prospective corps members, many of whom are visiting the state for the first time,” he said.
He also praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration for its proactive steps in prioritizing corps members’ welfare.
For assessment and evaluation, the Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General O.O. Nafiu, has directed Mrs. Abiodun Oluwaremilekun, Director, South West Area Office I, Osun State, to inspect the temporary venue ahead of the exercise.
Onifade wished all prospective corps members safe travels, advising them to avoid night journeys and only use designated motor parks when traveling.
