Supporters of Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the Senator representing Kogi Central, stormed the streets of Abuja on Tuesday in support of the lawmaker.
On Tuesday, the Senate unsealed the Kogi senator’s office, six months after she was suspended for misconduct and violating the bicameral legislature rules.
The senator arrived at the National Assembly complex in the company of her supporters as she moved to reclaim her seat following the expiration of the suspension.
She is also expected to resume office when the National Assembly resumes plenary on October 2.
Akpoti-Uduaghan, who accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment earlier this year, has appeared before the Federal High Court in Abuja for trial on alleged defamation of Akpabio and former Kogi governor, Yahaya Bello.
She had also accused Akpabio and Bello of attempting to assassinate her.
Despite the allegations, lawsuits, and suspension, Akpoti-Uduaghan has enjoyed unwavering support and loyalty from her supporters, civil society groups, women’s rights activists, and legal advocates who have been demanding her reinstatement.
