NSE, APWEN seek skills, policies to revitalise industries

President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Margaret Oguntala, has announced a new partnership with tech firms to equip members with cutting-edge skills.

Oguntala said this during a hybrid signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NSE and Citadel for Technological and Engineering Development Ltd (CITED) on Monday.

She said the partnership signifies a formal agreement on alignment with one of the key objectives of the society, which is capacity development.

The president described NSE’s strategic agenda, hitherto known as the Margaret Oguntola Presidential Strategic Agenda (MOPSA), as a bold vision.

Responding, the Managing Director of CITED, Bola Akirinbido, commended NSE’s commitment to promoting engineering excellence and advancing the interests of its members.

In another development, the President of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), Dr Adebisi Osim, yesterday, tasked the government at the state and federal levels to formulate engineering-led policies that would revitalise Nigeria’s industrial sector

Osim made the call at the opening of the association’s 2025 international conference, exhibition and yearly general meeting, entitled: “Revitalising Nigeria’s manufacturing sector through innovative engineering solutions” in Ibadan.

She noted that such policy support would empower the industries to thrive, warning that the future of Nigeria’s manufacturing sector lay not in imported solutions, but in home-grown innovations driven by Nigerian engineers.

Addressing the sector’s challenges, the association said, required more than policy reform, but intentional deployment of engineering expertise across all demographics.

Chairman, planning committee of the conference, Hauwa Muhammad Sadique, said the theme could not be timelier, especially at a period when the nation was striving to boost industrial productivity, create sustainable jobs, and foster inclusive economic growth.
