Nigeria’s voice at UNGA earns VP Shettima praise

Vice President Kashim Shettima has drawn commendation from the National Coalition for Renewed Transformation (NCRT) following his delivery of President Bola Tinubu’s address at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

In a statement on Saturday, the coalition’s president, Otunba Leke Adebodun, described the Vice President’s performance on the global stage as “outstanding,” noting that his presentation was both a reflection of loyalty to President Tinubu and a demonstration of Nigeria’s renewed voice in international affairs.

The coalition observed that Shettima’s speech tackled pressing global concerns, including unsustainable debt, climate change, peace and security, digital innovation, the plight of Palestinians, and calls for reform of the UN Security Council. It said the Vice President’s delivery underscored Nigeria’s longstanding positions on justice, equity, and the need for stronger representation of Africa in multilateral institutions.

According to the group, Shettima’s references to Nigeria’s domestic challenges — including flooding, terrorism, and the burden of debt — placed the country’s experiences within the wider global conversation, serving as “a reminder that the fate of nations is interconnected.”

The coalition added that Shettima’s presentation carried both substance and symbolism, arguing that his delivery reinforced the trust between the President and his deputy while signalling Nigeria’s readiness to engage with the world on equal terms.

For the NCRT, Shettima’s outing in New York represented more than diplomacy. “It showed that Nigeria has leaders capable of articulating the country’s vision before the world,” the statement said, while urging citizens to draw inspiration from the performance.

The group concluded by reaffirming its support for the Tinubu administration, saying the Vice President’s contribution at the UN was “a moment of pride” for the country.
