President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in his Independence Day broadcast on October 1, 2025, spoke directly to Nigerian youth, calling them the “greatest assets” of the nation.

He outlined promises meant to shape their future and expand opportunities.

Here are five of them with his own words.

1. Education loans through NELFUND

Tinubu said over 510,000 students across 36 states have already benefited from NELFUND. “We created NELFUND to support students with loans for their educational pursuits. Approximately 510,000 students across 36 states and the FCT have benefited from this initiative,” he said.

2. Access to affordable credit

The president highlighted Creditcorp loans worth ₦30 billion.

“Credicorp, another initiative of our administration, has granted 153,000 Nigerians ₦30 billion affordable loans for vehicles, solar energy, home upgrades, digital devices, and more,” he stated.

3. Support for corps members

Tinubu noted that corps members are now enjoying credit support.

“YouthCred, which I promised last June, is a reality, with tens of thousands of NYSC members now active beneficiaries of consumer credit for resettlement,” he said.

4. Opportunities in tech and creative industries

He promised more doors in technology and arts through iDICE.

“Under our Renewed Hope Agenda, we promised to build a Nigeria where every young person, regardless of background, has an equitable opportunity to access a better future — thus, the Investment in Digital and Creative Enterprises (iDICE) programme,” Tinubu explained.

5. Bigger dreams and wider opportunities

The president encouraged Nigerian youth to push boundaries. “You are the future and the greatest assets of this blessed country. You must continue to dream big, innovate, and conquer more territories in your various fields of science, technology, sports, and the art and creative sector,” he declared.

Tinubu’s speech was not just about policies. It was about recognising the everyday struggles of Nigerian youth and promising support for their education, hustle, and creativity.
