Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, thrilled guests with a surprise performance at the burial reception of the late father of his aide, Israel Afeare, popularly known as Israel DMW, in Benin City, Edo State, on Sunday.

The award-winning singer took to the stage to perform some of his hit songs, drawing loud cheers from guests who sang along and danced throughout his set. Security personnel were forced to intervene as excited fans surged towards the stage in a bid to get closer to the singer.

Members of the 30BG crew also attended the event, celebrating with Israel and making cash donations in support of the bereaved family. Relatives and friends travelled from within and outside Nigeria to honour the late patriarch.

Speaking after his performance, Davido said he was honoured to attend the event in support of his long-time associate.

“It is good to be here to support Israel. I thank everyone who came out and showed us love at this time. Thank you all once again,” he said.

An emotional Israel DMW expressed gratitude to Davido for attending the ceremony and entertaining guests, describing the singer as “the best boss I could ever wish for.”

He also thanked members of the 30BG crew, family members, friends and well-wishers for standing by him during the period of mourning.

“I must thank my boss for showing up for me. The 30BG crew also deserves commendation. The support from my family, friends, associates and well-wishers will remain etched in my memory,” he said.

The burial reception attracted several prominent personalities, including the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, who represented Governor Monday Okpebholo.

Also in attendance were politicians, entertainers, business leaders, family members, friends and other well-wishers.

Guests were treated to food and drinks throughout the celebration, while residents who gathered outside the venue were also served refreshments as the event drew large crowds.
