The Bauchi government, through its High Powered Committee on the Creation of additional Emirates, Chiefdom and Districts, has proposed the creation of two chiefdoms and 13 new emirates in the state.
Chairman of the committee, Hamza Koshe Akuyam, said the proposal was contained in the report of the committee submitted to Governor Bala Mohammed at the weekend.
Akuyam, who explained that the panel applied community and stakeholders’ engagement as a method before coming up with the recommendations, said that the committee also proposed the creation of additional 111 districts across the state.
He said one of the terms of reference was to receive, address and evaluate memoranda from communities seeking creation of emirates, chiefdoms and districts based on publicly advertised criteria, and to make recommendations that promote justice, social cohesion and inclusion.
According to him, 196 memoranda for the creation of emirates, chiefdoms and districts were received by the committee from various communities, out of which 17 were for the creation of emirates, 13 for the chiefdoms and 166 for districts.
Governor Mohammed expressed happiness with the outcome of the report, adding that the modus operandi, methodology, template and the techniques employed by the committee were satisfactory.
