Lagos lawmaker praises Sanwo-Olu after Africa’s first electric powerboat Grand Prix

Chairman of the Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Bonu Solomon Saanu, has commended the state’s governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, following the successful hosting of the E1 Lagos Grand Prix, the continent’s inaugural all-electric powerboat championship.

The legislator, who represents Badagry Constituency 1, asserted that the E1 Lagos GP had achieved more than just showcasing the state’s capacity to stage major international sporting events. “This is a landmark event; it highlighted the state’s potential for sustainable tourism development.”

Saanu stressed the event’s significance beyond mere sport, framing it as a demonstration of Lagos’s alignment with broader policy goals.

He highlighted that the Grand Prix demonstrated Lagos’ commitment to clean energy, innovation, and environmental responsibility, thereby reinforcing the Governor’s overarching THEMES+ development agenda.

He contended that Lagos has successfully positioned itself as a leader in sustainable development and a hub for global sporting excellence.

“The E1 Lagos GP has brought international recognition to Lagos, placing it alongside iconic global waterfronts like Monaco and Venice,” Saanu’s statement said.

He reiterated the dual benefits of hosting the championship: “The event showcased Lagos’ commitment to sustainable development, clean energy, and environmental responsibility,” while simultaneously predicting a substantial economic dividend.

“The influx of tourists during the E1 championship will boost the local economy, providing opportunities for artisans, traders, fishermen, and those in the hospitality industry,” he added, citing a clear signal of economic opportunity, tourism growth, and global prestige for Lagos State.

The lawmaker extended heartfelt appreciation to the Governor, the Organising Committee, and all stakeholders, expressing confidence that the event will have a lasting impact on Lagos’ tourism sector and contribute to the state’s economic growth.
