Ekiti Poll: APC clears Oyebanji, Omolayo; disqualifies Ojo, Olawunmi

…Dissolves Anambra chapter exco over intra-party squabbles

Ahead of the October 27 governorship primary in Ekiti State, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has cleared the incumbent Governor, Abiodun Oyebanji, and Mrs. Atinuke Oluremi Omolayo to contest both the party’s primary and the governorship election.

However, the party disqualified Engineer Kayode Ojo and Mrs. Abimbola Olajumoke Olawunmi for failing to comply with the provisions of the APC constitution and the extant provisions of the Electoral Act.

The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the party, Hon. Duro Meseko, announced the decision on Thursday following deliberations by the Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda-led National Working Committee (NWC) on the outcome of the screening exercise.

Meseko also disclosed that a reconciliation committee headed by former APC National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, will soon be inaugurated to address any grievances arising from the Ekiti governorship process.

In a related development, the APC announced the dissolution of the Anambra State Working Committee over what it described as “unending intra-party squabbles” among key stakeholders in the state chapter.

The NWC consequently appointed a seven-member caretaker committee to steer the affairs of the party in Anambra. The committee is chaired by Dr. Ben Nwoye, with Mrs. Fidelia Njoe Eze, Comrade Peter Chime, Dr. (Mrs.) Obie Aji, Dr. Chidoze Mwafo, Iman Eke, and Eugene Odo (Secretary) as members.

Meseko dismissed speculations that the dissolution was aimed at paving the way for the alleged defection of Governor Peter Mbah to the APC, but noted that the party is indeed expecting “more and more governors to join the APC soon.”
