Baze University has placed a strong emphasis on mental health, financial wellbeing, and career development during its 2025 Career Week, held from October 7 to 9 in Abuja.
The three-day event, themed “The Impact of Financial Stress on the Mental Wellbeing of Nigerian Youth,” brought together students, government representatives, and mental health advocates to discuss the link between emotional stability and career growth.
The week opened with a mental health awareness walk, led by Professor Abiodun Adeniyi, Registrar of the University, and ACP Greg Esele (Rtd.), Chief Security Officer. Participants visited landmarks across the city, including the EFCC Headquarters and Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, where they distributed awareness materials and engaged members of the public.
A representative from FMC’s Psychiatric Unit commended the initiative as a meaningful contribution to efforts marking World Mental Health Day.
The following sessions featured distinguished speakers, including the Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Olawande Emmanuel Ayodele, and Hauwa Liman, Technical Adviser to the Vice President on Women and Youth Engagement. Panel discussions addressed financial stress, substance abuse, special needs inclusion, and investment fraud, offering students guidance on maintaining balance and building sustainable careers.
The closing day focused on faculty-based discussions examining how mental health issues influence academic performance and student engagement.
Now in its seventh edition, Baze University’s Career Week continues to provide a platform for mentorship, wellness education, and professional growth, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to the holistic development of its students.
