Prof Uduma: 10 things to know about newly appointed NOUN VC

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman Governing Council of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Mallam Isa Yuguda, has announced the appointment of Professor Uduma Uduma as the new Vice-Chancellor of the institution.

He made the announcement on Friday at a press conference in Abuja.

Yuguda said this followed the adoption of the report of the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board for the appointment of the Vice-Chancellor of the institution.

The new VC, who defeated 29 other applicants, will assume office on February 11, 2026, when the tenure of the outgoing VC, Prof. Olufemi Peters, expires.

Here are 10 facts you should know about the newly-appointed NOUN VC:

1. Prof. Uduma Oji Uduma was born on 30th January 1966.

2. He hails from Ebonyi State, South-East Nigeria, becoming the first individual from the region to head the institution since its resuscitation 22 years ago.

3. He earned his first degree from the University of Calabar, where he graduated as the best student in his faculty.

4. The University Don holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Lagos, where he was first employed in February 1990 as a Graduate Assistant.

5. The Professor of Philosophy and Logic has also taught at University of Port Harcourt (1994 to 1996), Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki (1999 to 2017), Visiting Scholar University of Cape Coast, Ghana (1998 to 2010), University of Uyo (2016 to 2017), Adjunct Professor and Director of Academic Planning Evangel University, Abakaliki (2014 to 2018), Adjunct Professor of Philosophy, Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu Alike Ikwo, Ebonyi State (2015 to 2016), Adjunct Professor, Kogi State University (2009 to 2011), Adjunct Chief Lecturer at Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic, Unwana (2012 to 2014).

6. In addition to being a distinguished scholar, he is also a Barrister-at-Law, having been called to the Nigerian Bar in 2007.

7. He is known for his depth in philosophical analysis and reasoning.

8. As the Study Centre Director of NOUN in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, he significantly boosted student enrolment from 496 to over 2,000, showcasing his leadership and managerial skills.

9. Over the years, he has served in several key positions at NOUN — including Head of Department, Director of General Studies, Director of Academic Planning, and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic).
