• Group, IPOB lawyer urge Nigerians to join October 20 march
Igbo Women, under the aegis of Igbo World Assembly (IWA), have urged those they referred to as ‘true Nigerians’ to, irrespective of their tribe, religion or political party affiliations, identify with the Omoyele Sowore’s reported protest move for the release of Nnamdi Kanu.
The women said that a protest, scheduled to be held nationwide on October 20, 2025, was hailed by IWA, led by Lolo Nneka Chimezie, describing the protest as “a step in the right direction.”
IWA, in a statement, at the weekend, said that Kanu’s detention should amount to injustice to all hence, urging Nigerians to unite against injustice and intimidation; freedom of speech and rule of law, adding that Kanu stood against those ills, and that’s why they came after him.
The Igbo women, who expressed delight that notable figures from outside Igbo land are lending their voices to the growing agitation for the release of Kanu, queried why the government was negotiating with bandits, who had taken up arms against the country by killing both security agents and innocent citizens, but refused to release Kanu.
IWA, however, commended Sowore for his fight against injustice with respect to Kanu’s incarceration, and again, appealed to President Ahmed Tinubu to consider the growing appeals and free Kanu unconditionally.
Meanwhile, counsel to Kanu, Aloy Ejimakor, has said the continued detention of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) agitator should be opposed by all.
Ejimakor said Kanu could not be tried on the basis of the infamous extraordinary rendition that brought him back to Nigeria.
He said those who truly support the rule of law in Nigeria should oppose the continued prosecution of Kanu.
In a statement, Ejimakor urged Nigerians to join the October 20 protest to the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
