Club empowers youths with digital skills

In a bid to bridge the digital divide, the NGChuck Lions Club, Anthony Village, has empowered young people in the community with digital education.

The free computer training programme initiative, which has become the club’s yearly signature project, seeks to equip participants with vital information technology skills, enabling them to compete effectively in today’s digital world.

President of the Club, Chima Anyanwu, explained that the programme has evolved over the years.

“This is our signature project. We normally do it every year. The first two years were focused on the basics of computer training, last year was on graphic design, and this year we are teaching web design,” he said.

Immediate Past President, Ekene Ajiri-uwuseba, recalled that the programme was first introduced in 2021 by the club’s charter president. She noted that the initiative was designed to productively engage young people, especially during the holiday period.

“As a mother, I know this is the time when children are at home and often idle. Instead of wasting this time, we decided to help them acquire computer skills that will prepare them for opportunities in the IT world,” she said.

Also speaking, programme organiser, Felicia Obilo, encouraged participants to maximise the opportunity, stressing that the knowledge gained would remain relevant throughout their lives.
