A Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon and Clinical Director at Naas General Hospital, Ireland, Mr. Emmanuel Eguare, has donated a wide range of medical equipment and consumables to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).
Mr. Eguare, a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS), said the gesture was aimed at easing some of the challenges faced by doctors due to the limited availability of essential medical supplies.
During the presentation, he commended UBTH’s medical experts for their steadfast commitment and resilience, acknowledging their ability to deliver impressive results despite existing limitations.
Eguare pledged continued support to the hospital, describing the donation as “the first of many similar gestures to come.”
He said, “Use the donated items to the very best so that patients can benefit maximally. The hospital is close to my heart. This marks the beginning of my collaboration with UBTH. We can achieve a lot together, and I encourage us to leverage the internet and virtual platforms to strengthen our partnership.”
Receiving the items on behalf of the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Idia Nibokun Ize-Iyamu, the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Prof. Stanley Okugbo, expressed appreciation to the donor for his generosity and commitment to advancing the hospital’s mission.
Also present at the event were Prof. Clement Osime, Consultant Surgical Oncologist, and Dr. Irowa Omorodion, Consultant General Surgeon.
The comprehensive list of donated medical supplies includes: laparoscopic consumables (scratch pads), circular staplers, auto suture clamps, laryngeal masks (airways), laparoscopic graspers, armoured endotracheal tubes, PDS sutures, biopsy punches, high concentration masks, scalpels, T.E.D. stockings, arterial cannulas, blood pressure monitoring kits with accessories, proctoscopes, sigmoidoscopes, suction tubes, engine tubes, drainage catheters, transchosomic catheters, mini tracheotomy sets, steam blades, needle holders, fibre plaster, laparoscopic caps, and mesh (various sizes and brands).
