President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has joined Nigerians in celebrating former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (GCFR), on his 91st birthday, describing him as a living symbol of unity, peace, and national healing.
In a personally signed statement, Akpabio extolled Gowon’s statesmanship and enduring contributions to Nigeria’s post-war reconciliation, noting that his “No Victor, No Vanquished” policy remains a cornerstone of national unity.
“On behalf of my family, constituents, the Senate, and the 10th National Assembly, I wish to heartily rejoice with our former Head of State, His Excellency, General Yakubu Gowon, GCFR, on the occasion of his 91st birthday. It is a thing of joy to see him reach this milestone in life,” Akpabio said.
He described the former leader as a guiding light whose exemplary leadership during and after the civil war continues to inspire generations.

General Yakubu Gowon, who served as Nigeria’s military Head of State from 1966 to 1975, is widely celebrated for leading the nation through the civil war and initiating post-war reconciliation and reconstruction efforts that helped shape modern Nigeria.
