The Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC, Niger State Command, has flagged off 2025 Ember Months campaign, saying the initiative aimed at reducing road traffic crashes and promoting safety during the festive season.
The Sector Commander, FRSC, Niger State, Commander Aishat Saadu, during a press briefing at IBB Pen House Minna, on Monday 20th October 2025,stated that theme for this year’s campaign is Take Responsibility for Your Safety, Stop Distracted Driving, noting that,it reinforces the view that human factor is one of the major causes of road crashes, and also drew attention to the fact that drivers are largely responsible for crashes on highways.
Commander Saadu disclosed that crash statistics have revealed that between December 15, 2024, to January 15, 2025, 46 persons were killed in road crashes across Niger State, adding that 205 persons were injured and 432 victims were involved in 47 reported cases of road crashes.
She stressed that records also showed that the major causes of those crashes were excessive speeding, mixed loading/overloading of persons, goods, and animals, route violations, driving against traffic, and wrongful overtaking, among others.
She said, “In line with our commitment to achieve the desired outcome of the 2025 end-of-year campaign, the FRSC, Niger State Command, has mapped out the following:-
Deployment of FRSC personnel and Special Marshals across major highways and crash-prone corridors in the state, conducting motor park rallies statewide to raise awareness level of motorists and the general public, organising town hall meetings to strengthen collaboration with transport unions, security agencies, and other critical road safety stakeholders for a seamless Ember Months campaign.
Saadu maintained that the measures, in addition to routine enforcement operations, are designed to raise awareness about reckless driving, which is often associated with the Ember Months.
The Sector Commander had hinted that mobile courts and stop-over operations were also constituted to address persistent causes of crashes.
She appreciated Niger State Government for it’s unweavering supports to the corps in achieving it’s mandate in the state.
Saadu, however, enjoined all road users in the state to prioritise safety, follow traffic rules, and be their brother’s keeper.
