The ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has raised the alarm over what it described as the escalating internal crisis within the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), warning that the situation could threaten peace and stability in the state.
In a statement signed by its State Chairman, Sunday Bisi, on Wednesday, the PDP called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as the National Leader of the APC, to intervene and caution the party’s members in Osun before their internal disputes degenerate into widespread violence.
Bisi alleged that the worsening rifts among APC leaders and aspirants ahead of their planned primary election had already resulted in “threats, violent confrontations, and reckless utterances,” creating tension across the state.
“What is happening within the Osun APC today is not about democracy or service; it is a battle of desperation among politicians who have lost every sense of restraint and responsibility,” Bisi said. “Their public conduct has become a direct threat to the peace and stability of our dear state.”
He noted that the PDP-led government had earlier warned that the opposition party’s internal wrangling could become a source of crisis if not promptly addressed. “Recent developments have unfortunately confirmed this fear,” he added.
Citing recent incidents in Ilesa and Apomu, where supporters of rival APC aspirants reportedly issued threats and clashed, the PDP chairman described the situation as “a dangerous trend showing total breakdown of leadership and discipline within the APC.”
“These are not isolated incidents; they point to a party that has lost control of its members,” Bisi stated. “The situation is fast becoming a menace to public peace, and we will not fold our arms as custodians of the people’s mandate while innocent residents are being attacked.”
He also condemned “the reckless public outburst by a known supporter of one APC aspirant, who labelled a rival as an assassin,” saying the failure of the party leadership to sanction such behaviour reflects “the moral bankruptcy and indiscipline within their ranks.”
Bisi urged security agencies to remain vigilant and take proactive measures to prevent further breakdown of law and order, stressing that Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration had worked hard to maintain peace and unity in the state.
“Governor Adeleke has built a peaceful and inclusive Osun, and we will not allow a few desperate politicians to destroy that legacy,” he said.
“Anyone who attempts to bring violence into our state in the name of politics will face the full weight of the law.”
Reaffirming the PDP’s commitment to peace and responsible governance, the party called on residents to remain calm and law-abiding.
“Osun belongs to all of us, not to a handful of politicians who believe power must be seized by force,” Bisi said.
