An Ikeja Special Offences Court yesterday sentenced Oladayo Bello to one year imprisonment for being in possession of fraudulent documents. Bello was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on an amended one-count charge of possessing documents containing false information with intent to defraud. He pleaded guilty to the charge.
Justice Ismail Ijelu convicted and sentenced Bello following a plea bargain agreement between him and the prosecution. The court, however, gave him the option of paying a fine of N2.5 million instead of the jail term.
The judge also ordered the forfeiture of Bello’s gadgets: an iPhone 15 Pro, an iPhone 12 Pro and a Samsung Galaxy S9, to the Federal Government. In addition, N600,000 and $1,200 recovered from him at the time of arrest were also forfeited.
During a review of the facts, EFCC counsel, Mr Ebareotu Pereagbe, told the court that the convict was arrested on May 14, 2025, for possessing a fraudulent document titled “Interview Invitation”, printed from his iPhone 12, which was intended to deceive and defraud unsuspecting victims.
Pereagbe added that Bello, in his plea bargain dated October 23, admitted to the offence and undertook to be of good behaviour and desist from any form of financial or economic crime after his release. He said the offence contravenes Section 320 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
