Kano varsity denies ASUU’s claim on financial mismanagement

Authorities of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Kano, have refuted allegations of misappropriation of resources levelled by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) against its management.

Besides, the University insisted that the Vice Chancellor, Professor Musa Yakaisa, has demonstrated quality leadership with profound trust in accountability and transparency.

In a release signed by Abdullahi Datti, Deputy Registrar in charge of Information, Media and Public Relations, on Saturday, the institution expressed disappointment over ASUU’s agitation despite efforts to improve the working environment.

ASUU had demanded accountability and transparency in the management of the university’s budget and faulted the Vice Chancellor for an alleged hidden financial report.

The Vice Chancellor, according to the release, emphasised that the management has been working hard to improve the university and help the staff to grow.

The university accused ASUU of delving into partisan politics instead of focusing on academics and urged the general public to ignore the antics of the Union.

He said, “The management has hired auditors to check the university’s finances from 2020 to 2022 and made the reports public. We are waiting for the report for 2023. We also have a new committee to monitor the budget now that the old one was dissolved.

“For example, we have renovated classrooms, provided technology for teaching, improved the library, and made sure there is electricity. ASUU is not talking about that. We clean and fix the student hostels every year to make sure they are safe and comfortable.

“On the employment issue, some staff who were hired as permanent employees were later told they would be on contract. The university is waiting for a report from the Ministry of Higher Education on this issue.”

The release emphasised the efforts of the university authorities to effectively manage the internally generated revenue to efficiently manage the university’s resources.
