Kano varsity dismisses ASUU’s claim of financial mismanagement

Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Kano, has refuted the allegation of financial misappropriation levelled by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) against its management.

The university maintained that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Musa Yakasai, has, instead, demonstrated quality leadership, characterised by accountability and transparency.

In a statement signed by the Deputy Registrar in charge of Information, Media, and Public Relations, Abdullahi Datti, at the weekend, the institution expressed disappointment over ASUU’s agitation despite ongoing efforts to improve staff’s working environment.

ASUU had earlier demanded greater accountability and transparency in the management of the university’s budget, and accused the vice-chancellor of withholding financial audit reports of several years.

Contrary to the union’s claim, the vice-chancellor maintained that the management has been working diligently to develop the university and support staff growth, dismissing allegations of missing financial audit.

The university further accused ASUU of engaging in partisan politics and making a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of management, rather than focusing on academic matters. It urged the public to disregard the union’s “mischievous traits”.
