• Ekiti PDP cautions Makinde over alleged moves to upturn primary poll
• Party leaders drag Akintola before NJC
Justice Ladiran Akintola of the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has again adjourned the hearing of a Motion on Notice in the suit filed by Folahan Malomo Adelabi against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), its acting national chairman and other respondents.
However, PDP leaders in Ekiti State warned against alleged subterranean moves by “enemies of the party” to upturn the outcome of the governorship primary won by Dr Wole Oluyede.
Their colleagues in Oyo petitioned the National Judicial Council (NJC), demanding urgent disciplinary action against Justice A.L. Akintola of the Oyo State High Court over “acts of judicial recklessness, impunity and gross misconduct.”
The PDP Convention case, which has attracted growing political attention, will continue tomorrow, following the court’s decision to allow all parties more time to file and exchange necessary processes.
Justice Akintola, after hearing submissions from counsel representing both sides, emphasised the importance of properly filing all relevant documents before substantive proceedings could commence.
The judge stated that the adjournment was necessary to enable the court to consider all pending applications together for a smooth hearing. The court had, in a ruling last week, granted an ex parte order permitting the PDP to proceed with preparations for its scheduled National Convention while setting Monday, November 10, for the hearing of the Motion on Notice.
THE Ekiti PDP leaders, led by former Speaker of the House of Assembly, Kola Oluwawole; deputy governorship candidate in 2022, Deji Ogunsakin; Segun Adeola and Makanjuola Ogundipe appealed to the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde and the PDP leaders at the national level, to stop the alleged plots by enemies of the party to upturn the choice of the people.
Oluyede won the primary poll with 279 votes, defeating his closest rival, Funso Ayeni, who received 239 votes, while Theresa Funmi Ogun trailed with 27 votes.
Speaking yesterday at a press conference in Ado-Ekiti, the leaders described Oluyede as the people’s choice, saying “we have decided to win the 2026 June 20 governorship election in Ekiti”.
Meanwhile, Oluyede has commenced reconciliation efforts by visiting one of the aggrieved contestants at the primary, Mrs Ogun.
IN a petition dated November 5, 2025, and acknowledged by the office of the Chief Justice of Nigeria on November 6, PDP stakeholders, including Austine Nwachukwu, Amah Abraham Nnanna, and TurnahAlabh George, called on the NJC to probe the judge’s conduct in a recent ex parte order issued on November 4.
Akintola, according to the petitioners, had granted an ex parte order permitting the PDP to hold its national convention in Ibadan on November 15 and 16, an order the petitioners believed directly contradicts a subsisting judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Reiterating their confidence in the Chief Justice of Nigeria’s leadership, they maintained that “the judiciary must remain the last hope of the common man, not a willing tool for those seeking to subvert justice.”
The petitioners expressed hope that the NJC would treat the matter with urgency to reinforce the principle that “no one—no matter how highly placed—is above the law.”
