Warns residents, business owners against careless storage of inflammables
Lagos State Government, yesterday, called for equitable and access to family planning services for the People with Disabilities (PWDs) in the state.
General Manager, Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA), Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, made the call during an interactive engagement with stakeholders in Ikeja.
Oyetunde-Lawal, represented by the Director, Admin and Human Resource of the agency, Omolade Sonubi, said that the advocacy programme model was designed towards advancing inclusive access for PWDs in the state.
She said that the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had consistently pushed for the needs of those with disabilities in the state and had also approved numerous interventions to empower the PWDs in Lagos.
In her remark, Director of Medical Rehabilitation, Mobility Aids and Appliances of the agency, Olukanni-Abokhai Eniola, said that the state is promoting the inclusion agenda of the administration of Sanwo-Olu by ensuring that people with disability have access to family planning services.
She maintained that the government had forged a collaboration with various development partners that are working to provide consumables used for family planning services.
However, Chairman, Albinism Association of Nigeria, Lagos State chapter, Tolani Ojuri, applauded the initiative but stressed for collaboration between the government and the disability clusters.
IN another development, as the Yuletide season draws near, Lagos State Government has appealed to residents and business owners not to store inflammable items in their homes and facilities as a precautionary measure to prevent disasters and emergencies.
Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, who gave the advice, yesterday, during a stakeholders’ consultative meeting, implored residents to cooperate with responders by not only being safety conscious but also alert LASEMA through the emergency numbers in case of any incident that could lead to disaster.
Oke-Osanyintolu said that the Institute was set up to equip responders with the theoretical knowledge for effective and efficient disaster management. He said that the establishment of the Institute would go a long way to help boost the practice of disaster management in Nigeria.
