The Vice President of the Nigerian Body of Benchers and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Albert Akpomudje, has been named the 14th Ohworode of the ancient Olomu Kingdom in Delta State, ushering in what many describe as a fusion of tradition, law and modern leadership.
Akpomudje, who previously served as the Otota (Traditional Prime Minister) of the Olomu Kingdom, will be formally crowned on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Otorere (Agbon) Olomu in Ughelli South Local Council.
In a statement signed by the Secretary of the Olomu Kingdom Traditional Council (OKTC), Olorogun John Ewenede, the council invited the public to attend the coronation, describing the event as “a celebration of continuity, unity and cultural pride.”
According to the statement, a grand reception will follow at the royal palace, opposite the Magistrate’s Court, Akperhe-Olomu.
Akpomudje’s emergence follows the passing of the 13th Ohworode, His Royal Majesty Macaulay Ovbagbedia, Uhurhie-Osadjere II, from the Uhurhie Ruling House. The late monarch, a retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, ascended the throne in May 2023 and reigned until his death in July 2025, the shortest reign in the kingdom’s history.
In line with Olomu custom, Akpomudje, a descendant of the Eyavwien Ruling House, assumes the throne as the next in command after completing the required traditional rites.
Beyond his legal career, the new mon0arch is also the Worldwide President of the Government College Ughelli Old Boys Association (GCUOBA) and hails from Akperhe-Olomu.
Across the Olomu Kingdom, excitement continues to build ahead of the coronation. Streets are being decorated, drums echo through the air, and dance troupes rehearse for the grand royal procession expected to draw dignitaries, traditional rulers and political figures from across Nigeria.
