Enugu announces new scholarship awards scheme

The Enugu State Government has announced new scholarship awards, offering opportunities for state indigenes at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and teacher education levels.

The scheme, approved by Governor Peter Mbah, is being administered by the Enugu State Scholarship and Education Loans Board under the Ministry of Education.

The government, in a statement issued in Enugu yesterday, by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ndubueze Mbah, said the state government has opened a total of 1,600 scholarship slots, comprising 500 undergraduate scholarships, 1,000 scholarships for teachers, and 100 postgraduate scholarships for Master’s and PhD applicants in Nigerian institutions for the 2025 academic year.

Prof. Mbah noted that the Teachers’ Scholarship is specifically targeted at indigenous teachers in Enugu State Government schools who wish to pursue Master’s degrees and are willing to serve in the state’s education system for 10 years after completing their studies.

To qualify, applicants must be confirmed indigenes of Enugu State and must possess a valid admission into an approved programme for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Required documents include a Local Council identification letter, admission and acceptance letters, attestation from a traditional ruler, and a passport photograph.

Teachers must also provide their employment letters.

All documents must be uploaded online as a single PDF file, not exceeding 2MB, the Commissioner said.

Mbah explained that applications are to be submitted via https://apply.esselb.en.gov.ng, adding that the application window for undergraduate and postgraduate categories opens on November 14, 2025, and closes at 12:00 a.m. on November 28, 2025. The Teachers’ Scholarship application window will close on December 8, 2025.
