President Bola Tinubu has approved the nomination of three non-career ambassadors to serve in the United States of America (U.S.A.), the United Kingdom (UK) and France.
The nominations have been transmitted to the Senate for screening and confirmation. Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who disclosed the development in a post on his X handle yesterday, confirmed the nominees as Ambassador Ayodele Oke, Colonel Lateef Kayode Are (rtd) and Ambassador Amin Mohammed Dalhatu.
Dalhatu previously served as Nigeria’s envoy to South Korea during the late Muhammadu Buhari administration, following his initial appointment in 2016.
Oke, an alumnus of Emory University in Atlanta, was Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and had served as Nigeria’s ambassador to the Secretariat of the Commonwealth of Nations in London.
Are, who headed the State Security Service (SSS) from 1999 to 2007 also served as National Security Adviser (NSA) in 2010. He is a distinguished graduate of the University of Ibadan, where he earned a First Class Honours degree in Psychology in 1980.
