Cross River FA fines three teams N500,000 each for withdrawing from Governor’s Cup

The Cross River State Football Association (CRSFA) has sanctioned three local government teams for abandoning their fixtures in the ongoing 2025 Governor’s Cup, also known as the Sweet Prince Cup.

In a statement issued by the Association’s Secretary, Sir Talabi Oke, the Disciplinary Committee announced that Obubra United (Obubra LGA), ABIWAVES FC (Abi LGA), and Akpabuyo United (Akpabuyo LGA) have each been fined N500,000 for withdrawing from the competition and returning to their council headquarters instead of completing their matches at designated centres.

The committee described the conduct as a serious breach that brought the tournament into disrepute. It noted that the affected teams must pay the fines within 30 days or face additional penalties, including possible suspension from future CRSFA-organised events.

Meanwhile, the Organising Committee has released the second-round fixtures, with quarterfinal games scheduled to be held today.
