Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has described the international recognition of Dr Obiageli Ezekwesili as a defining moment for values-driven leadership, saying the honour reinforces the global relevance of integrity and accountability in public life.

Ezekwesili, a former Vice President of the World Bank and a globally respected governance reformer, was named a joint recipient of the International Anti-Corruption Excellence Award (Lifetime Achievement) on December 14, 2025, in Doha, Qatar. The award was presented by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

In a congratulatory message, Akpoti-Uduaghan said the recognition went beyond personal achievement, symbolising global affirmation for ethical leadership in an era marked by declining public trust in institutions.

“Dr Obiageli Ezekwesili’s honour speaks to the enduring power of integrity, courage and principled leadership,” the senator said. “Her life’s work has shown that transparency and accountability are not abstract ideals, but practical tools for building stronger societies. This recognition is well deserved.”

Ezekwesili, a co-founder of Transparency International, was honoured for decades of leadership in advancing anti-corruption reforms.
