In Pictures: Zulum approves employment for 81 top KIU graduates

Borno State governor ,Babagana Zulum, has approved the immediate employment of 81 top graduating students of the state-owned Kashim Ibrahim University (KIU), most of whom hold first- and second-upper-class degrees.

Zulum announced the approval during the university’s maiden combined convocation ceremony held on Saturday in Maiduguri.

The colourful event over the weekend was attended by high-level dignitaries, including the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima.

The Governor, who is also the Visitor to the varsity, stated, “The automatic and immediate employment offer by the state government is a strategic investment in the state’s future development.

“I want to inform this gathering that I have approved the recruitment of all the 81 best graduating students of the 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025 graduating classes as lecturers of this university, adding that it takes effect from January 1, 2026. Effective January 1, 2026.

“In sha Allah, in addition to their automatic employment, we shall also send them to study their postgraduate programmes both within and outside the country.”

The convocation ceremony witnessed a major donation from the office of the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Shettima.

The VP announced that two electric buses would be provided to the university for students’ and staff commuting and for shuttling within the university campus located along the Maiduguri-Damaturu road.

Other notable leaders who attended the convocation include the Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni; the Governor of Gombe State, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya; and a representative of the Governor of Kebbi State.

Also present was the prominent philanthropist and businessman, Alhaji Muhammadu Indimi, whose foundation has been a key supporter of education in Nigeria, having recently donated N2 billion to the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) education endowment fund.

Others include the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, accompanied by many traditional rulers from various states in the country.

KIU’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babagana Gutti, expressed gratitude to all who have contributed to shaping the university and achieving the current feat of producing 28 first-class degrees since the establishment of the university in 2016.
