APC chieftain makes case for abducted Ilaje prince
The Ondo State Security Network, known as the Amotekun Corps, has raised the alarm over the influx of unemployed young men from the northern part of the country into the state.
This was as a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Olabode Ajimijere, enjoined Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Commissioner of Police in the state and other heads of security agencies to ensure the release of the abducted Ilaje prince, Emorioloye Owolemi.
While expressing concern that the influx of unemployed youths poses security threats in the state, the Commander of Amotekun Corps in the state, Adetunji Adeleye, disclosed that over 40 able-bodied men were intercepted in a truck a few days ago. Adeleye revealed that with no genuine mission in the state, the young men would be returned to their states of origin after proper profiling.
According to the Amotekun boss, while parading no fewer than 32 suspects, who were arrested across the state for various crimes, the interception should not be termed as the entry of bandits into the state but a routine security check.
“Only recently, I came across a social media clip where people were shouting that bandits had entered Akure. Let me state clearly that bandits did not enter Akure. What actually happened was that 42 persons were found hidden inside a truck loaded with bitumen. Investigations and profiling of these individuals have since commenced,” he stated.
During the parade of the suspects, Adeleye stated that operatives of the corps arrested three herders for allegedly attempting to kill their Fulani boss in the Idoani community, Ose Local Council of the state.
The suspects, identified as Abdukadri, 25, Ibrahim, 30, and Yunusa, 40, allegedly rustled over 10 cows from their boss after committing the crime.
AJIMIJERE made the case in a letter addressed to Aiyedatiwa and heads of security agencies in the state.
The letter was obtained by newsmen yesterday. The Guardian gathered that Owolemi, an activist, who doubles as Publicity Secretary of Ilaje Leadership Forum, was forcefully taken away by gunmen at his residence in Ilaje on Thursday.
Our correspondent learnt that the victim has not been released as of the time of filing this report yesterday. Ajimijere, in the letter, described the development as disturbing, describing the abduction of the victim as a threat to public safety.
The APC chieftain, while condemning the act, appealed to Aiyedatiwa to take immediate steps to ensure the safe and unconditional release of the Ilaje prince.
