National leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), John Oyegun, yesterday, said a new Nigeria is possible with the calibre of people joining the party.

Oyegun spoke in Benin at the mass exodus of the members of the Obedient Movement into the ADC. The former Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) stressed that the coming of the Obidient Movement into the party in the state is a sign that the people are ready to join the struggle for a leadership change.

Oyegun, who noted that he was happy that the Obidient Movement was joining the ADC, added: “A new Nigeria is truly possible. A few days ago, I was in the hall when a colourful and important personality, Dele Momodu, joined us.

“Today is the first time I saw youths who are committed to nation-building. It is my first time meeting members of the Obedient Movement in this number. We are convinced that the youth of this country are ready.

“You have decided to take up the struggle yourself by joining the ADC. I am happy. I want to say that from the day the coalition came together, I was convinced that we are on the right path.

“I am sure you are not happy with what is happening in Nigeria and Edo State. Remember that the chairman said that our mission is to save our country. We must start to make sure that, through the ADC, we will make a new Nigeria possible.”

Speaking, state coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Asemota Idiogbe, described ADC as the right party to battle APC in Edo and Nigeria.

He stated that he expected Peter Obi to become the party’s flagbearer and eventually become the President of the country.

Meanwhile, ahead of the 2027 Presidential election, former Minister of State for Education and two-time member of the House of Representatives, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, has declared his interest in running for president on the platform of the ADC.

Speaking on his ambition, Nwajiuba stressed that Nigeria’s current challenges require leadership driven by clear policies, effective negotiation skills, and a strong grassroots political structure rather than rhetoric.

According to a statement from his office yesterday, his years in the legislature, the executive arm of government, and key national institutions have equipped him with a broad understanding of governance and public finance.

Also, ADC, Bauchi State chapter, has accused some members of attempting to cause division in the state while dismissing the report of the removal of the state chairman.

The State Chairperson of the party, Hassan Haruna, explained that he was aware that some of the members who were expelled and suspended from ADC have been contracted to fragment the party. He said that they have opened a factional office while flaunting their own “illegal” leader.

According to Haruna, those aggrieved and suspended members were involved in questionable acts and faced sanctions.

“They don’t have legal support to create such factions.

“We are aware that they are working with some elected officials of some other parties, and we won’t allow them.”

Haruna said that the party provided a constitutional process for removing the sitting chairman and has not been followed. He said that all 20 local council chairpersons are loyal to him and ready to move the party forward.
