Lagos pays N40m-worth benefit to families of fallen LASTMA officers

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA)

The Lagos State Government has disbursed N40 million as support to the families and dependants of deceased officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) who died in the line of duty.

The presentation, coordinated by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, was held at the LASTMA headquarters in Oshodi, Lagos. At the event, 20 beneficiary families received N2 million each.

Giwa said the gesture was not intended as compensation for the loss of lives, noting that no amount of money could equate to the value of human life. He described the support as a symbolic and tangible recognition of the courage, dedication and sacrifice displayed by the fallen officers in the service of Lagos State.

He said the government remained committed to preserving the memory of the officers and ensuring that their families were not left to bear the burden of loss alone, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to the welfare of public servants and their dependants.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Olawale Musa, commended the initiative, describing it as a demonstration of empathy and humane governance. He said the intervention would strengthen public confidence in government institutions and reassure serving officers that dedication and sacrifice would be honoured.

Also speaking, the General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, described the fallen officers as patriots whose legacy of selfless service would endure within the agency. He expressed appreciation to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the support extended to the families.

Adebayo Adegboayega Coker, wife of the pioneer General Manager of LASTMA, encouraged the beneficiaries to utilise the funds prudently, particularly towards the education and welfare of their children.

In a vote of thanks on behalf of the beneficiaries, Adeyemo Rotimi expressed gratitude to the state government and the governor for the assistance.
