Govt sacks Marwa as Delta Queens’ coach over alleged misconduct

Delta Queens celebrate their League title

The Delta State Sports Commission has terminated the appointment of Samaila Samaila Marwa, popularly known as Keshi, as Head Coach of Delta Queens Football Club, citing allegations of gross misconduct, unprofessional behaviour and poor work ethics.

The decision, which takes immediate effect, was conveyed in a letter dated January 15, 2026, signed by Omajajah Onoriode on behalf of the chairman of the commission.

In the letter, the Commission accused the former coach of actions it described as “inimical to the progress and growth” of the state-owned women’s team.

Chief among the allegations were claims of persistent bullying of players and officials, despite what the Commission said were repeated warnings and admonitions from its leadership.

The Commission further alleged that Marwa repeatedly brought the office of the club’s General Manager into public disrepute and routinely flouted directives from constituted authorities.

According to the letter, the coach allegedly resorted to threats of resignation whenever he was cautioned over his conduct, a pattern the Commission said undermined discipline and stability within the team.

A particularly serious allegation bordered on Delta Queens’ away fixture against Ahudiyannen Queens of Umuahia on January 14, 2026, and Delta Queens’ 1–0 home defeat to Abia Angels at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, a result that compounded the club’s struggles in the ongoing 2026/2027 Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) season.

The Commission claimed that Marwa’s conduct during the match led to the raising of a false alarm against the host team, a development it warned could have dragged Delta Queens into an avoidable conflict with the management of the Nigeria Women’s Football League.

“The actions of the coach during that encounter were capable of bringing the club and the state into disrepute at the national level,” the letter stated, adding that such behaviour was unacceptable in a league striving for professionalism and integrity.
