• Group flays ex-governor over ‘traitor’ remarks
In the wake of political realignment in Kano, the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar-Mata, has resigned from the cabinet of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Kofar-Mata, a leader of Kwankwasiyya scholars and close associate of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, quit his position yesterday, insisting he “cannot continue to work under the government that derailed from the ideology that brought it to power.”

In a statement posted on his verified social media handle, Kofar-Mata wrote: “Salam! I wish to categorically state that I hereby resign my appointment as the Commissioner and Member of the Kano State Executive Council.

“I took this decision in good faith, as I cannot continue to work under the government that derailed from the ideology that brought it to power.

The resignation comes less than 72 hours after Governor Yusuf dumped the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), citing a deep internal crisis threatening the party’s survival.

However, the state government has warned supporters against making inflammatory remarks or insulting the leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, cautioning that such actions would attract disciplinary measures.

The warning was issued yesterday by a spokesperson to the governor, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, while making the opening remarks during the distribution of 500 motorcycles to social media promoters at the Government House, Kano.

The governor urged supporters to exercise restraint and maturity, particularly in the face of heightened political tension following the recent shift in political alignments in the state.

Also, the Kano People’s Rights Alliance (KPRA), yesterday, condemned recent remarks credited to Kwankwaso.

The group described the ex-governor’s portrayal of Yusuf as a “traitor” as an unfounded allegation, warning that such comments undermine democratic values and raise concerns about Kwankwaso’s commitment to the collective interest of the people of Kano State.

In a statement by KPRA Coordinator, Isyaku Lawal Tofa, the body described the comments as misleading, inflammatory, and harmful to the political climate of Kano State.

It called on Kwankwaso and other political actors to engage in constructive dialogue, present policy alternatives transparently, and avoid what it termed “insult-laden rhetoric.”
