Tai Solarin Federal University of Education (TASFUED) is set to graduate 4,785 students, including 40 with first-class honours, with over 4,000 students across faculties benefiting from the NELFUND programme, and 700 million naira disbursed within the session.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adekunle Adeogun, speaking ahead of the convocation, commended President Bola Tinubu on his educational programmes, highlighting their effectiveness in preventing students from dropping out of school due to financial difficulties.
Adeogun said 6,251 students have benefited from the NELFUND programme, with 700 million naira disbursed to 4,210 students this session.
He encouraged students to take advantage of the programme, noting that it has prevented students from dropping out due to lack of fees.
He also noted that the University has added 12 new courses, including Entrepreneurship Education, Land Transport Planning and Management, Physics and Electronics, and Software Engineering.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, will deliver the convocation lecture.
Breakdown of graduands: 40 with First Class, 1,466 with Second Class Upper, 2,768 with Second Class Lower, 269 part-time students, and 88 Nigerian Army College of Education students.
He said, “At this 17th Convocation Ceremony, a total of 4,785 regular students will be graduating from the University. Out of this number, 40 obtained First Class Honours, 1,466 obtained Second Class Upper Division, 2,768 obtained Second Class Lower Division, and others. The total number of part-time graduands is 269, and the total number of Nigerian Army College of Education (NACOE) graduands is 88.
“As part of the highlights of this Convocation, the Visitor to the University will commission the new Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre and a lecture hall constructed with the support of TETFund.
“Furthermore, the University will be conferring Honorary Doctorate Degrees on three distinguished Nigerians: Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON – Doctor of Science in Education (Childhood Education); Prince (Dr.) Dapo Abiodun, CON – Doctor of Science in Education (Education Management); and Aremo Olusegun Osoba – Doctor of Science in Education (Political Science).
“The 17th Convocation is, therefore, a celebration of progress, national recognition, and renewed commitment to educational excellence. As we graduate another legion of professionals, we reaffirm our resolve to remain a leading University of Education in Africa.
“Across the last session and this session, a total of 6,251 students have benefited from NELFUND, with 700 million naira disbursed to 4,210 students this session alone.”
