American YouTuber and live streamer Darren Watkins Jr, popularly known as IShowSpeed, has continued to attract intense attention across Africa as his ongoing tour draws huge crowds, emotional reactions and nonstop social media buzz.

The 21-year-old content creator, who now has over 50 million YouTube subscribers, is touring 20 African countries with the aim of showcasing everyday life, culture and people on the continent to a global audience.

Speaking during one of his livestreams earlier in the tour, Speed said, “I want to show the world what Africa really is,” adding that the continent is “full of surprises.”

Across several countries he has visited, scenes of young fans crying, hugging him tightly and struggling to get close have become common.

In Rwanda, Benin Republic, Ethiopia, Ghana and Nigeria, teenagers were visibly emotional after meeting him, while many African Americans have also reacted positively to the reception he has received on the continent.

In Eswatini, he was given the traditional name Logijimako, meaning the one who runs, after taking part in an initiation ceremony at a royal palace. Social media users have also nicknamed him Speedani following his growing connection with African audiences.

The tour began in Angola, where he was visibly moved after a fan recreated one of his viral facial expressions on a beach.

Reacting live, he said, “Bro, I’m not going to lie. I love the love in Africa. The energy here is crazy.”

According to information from his team, the tour is expected to last 28 days and will cover 20 countries.

His activities include meeting fans, visiting landmarks, eating local food, trying cultural practices, engaging in sports and livestreaming most of the experience.

Liberia visit turns emotional

Speed arrived in Liberia on January 24, 2026, to massive crowds that reportedly shut down parts of the streets.
During the visit, he was seen dancing in a Liberia jersey, interacting with residents and trying local jollof rice. The highlight of the trip came when he met Francis Watkins and other relatives after tracing family connections linked to 19th century settlers.

The visit was later cut short due to safety concerns raised by officials over the overwhelming crowd. Speed was also said to have felt light headed from exhaustion. He later praised Liberian culture and apologised to fans for the sudden end to the outing.

Lagos outing goes viral

On 21st January, Speed visited Nigeria, where his appearance in Lagos generated attention.

Large crowds gathered around him at Admiralty Mall in Lekki, with videos from the outing quickly spreading online. He met several Nigerian content creators, including Peller, Jarvis and Egungun.

A viral clip captured Egungun asking him, “Speed, how old you be?” to which the streamer replied, “I be 21.” Egungun then added, “Wow, you look healthy and strong.”

Speed also visited Nike Art Gallery in Lekki, where he was welcomed and introduced to aspects of Yoruba art and culture. Many of the videos from the Nigeria visit attracted millions of views.

On January 26, IShowSpeed arrived in Ghana, where the visit produced ten notable moments.

1. Visit to traditional ruler in Akropong

IShowSpeed visited Akropong in the Akuapem Traditional Area and met with a traditional ruler and elders. The appearance featured a white wrapper tied around the waist, with residents gathering to watch and record the moment.

2. Backflip performed before elders
During the same visit to Akropong, a backflip was performed in front of the chief and elders, drawing cheers from the crowd and quickly spreading across social media.

3. Backflip on Black Star Gate
At Black Star Square in Accra, the Black Star Gate was climbed and another backflip performed on top of the national monument, triggering excitement among those present and debate online over safety.

4. Visit to Kwame Nkrumah Monument

The tour included a stop at the Kwame Nkrumah Monument in Accra, where the famous pose of Ghana’s first president was recreated for photographs. The gesture received positive reactions from many Ghanaians online.

5. Comment on Ghanaian jollof rice
Ghanaian jollof rice was sampled during the visit. After tasting the meal, a remark was made that Nigerian jollof tasted better; he said, “I’ll have to go with Nigeria.”

6. Mango eaten without peeling
A lighthearted moment emerged when locals demonstrated that mango could be eaten without peeling. The fruit was eaten on camera, with the reaction becoming one of the most shared clips from the trip.

7. Encounter with a chimpanzee
Another viral clip showed an unexpected encounter with a chimpanzee while moving around in Ghana.

8. Victory in push-up challenge
A push up challenge was held against a man introduced in the video as the strongest man in Ghana. The challenge ended with a win.

9. Meeting with three viral personalities
A widely shared clip captured a meeting with three men introduced as the skinniest, the fattest and the most built individuals. The interaction quickly gained traction across social media platforms.

10. Drifting a Hellcat car

The Ghana experience also featured a car stunt, with footage showing a Hellcat vehicle being drifted. The clip added to the growing list of moments from the visit.
