Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested four suspected drug peddlers in separate intelligence-driven operations within and around the Enugu metropolis.

The command said the arrests were carried out by its Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team and Anti-Cultism Squad, with large quantities of substances suspected to be cannabis and hard drugs, a cash sum of N1.8 million and other incriminating exhibits recovered from the suspects.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Daniel Ndukwe, said the operations were part of sustained efforts to dismantle drug distribution networks and curb associated crimes in the state.

In a statement, he said operatives of the SWAT Team, acting on credible intelligence, on January 26, 2026, at about 11:30 a.m., raided a criminal hideout behind New Market, Enugu, where they arrested a 46-year-old female suspect, Omeru Nkechi, alleged to be a drug peddler.

He said: “Exhibits recovered from the suspect include one big bag of a substance suspected to be Indian hemp; one big roll of wire; six rolls of 1.5mm electric wires; assorted off-cut wires; one water-pumping machine; one POS machine; two ATM cards; and a cash sum of N1,800,000.”

The command also disclosed that its Anti-Cultism Squad, while on crime-prevention patrol and acting on actionable intelligence, on January 25, 2026, at about 9:00 a.m., stormed identified black spots in Obeagu, Asata and the Holy Ghost Railway Area, arresting three male suspects.

They were identified as Anielozie Emmanuel (21), Ekoh Miracle (20) and Nwachukwu Michael (27), who is suspected to be a member of the Vikings Confraternity.

Items recovered from the trio include 32 small containers filled with substances suspected to be cannabis, one sachet of a substance also suspected to be cannabis, and 12 wrapped pills suspected to be hard drugs.

Ndukwe said discreet investigations were ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the drug-peddling networks and dismantle their operations.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating drug abuse, cultism and all forms of criminality in Enugu State.
