Operatives of the Adamawa State Police Command have arrested a 40-year-old man in connection with the killing of his elder brother in Gombi Local Council of the state.

The suspect, identified as Abubakar Sadiq of Boga Village in Gombi, was arrested following credible intelligence, police said.

In a statement yesterday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said operatives from the Gombi Divisional Police Headquarters, working with professional hunters, carried out the arrest.

Nguroje said the suspect was linked to the killing of Alhaji Sadiq Boga on January 20, 2026, adding that during interrogation, he confessed to committing the crime alongside five others.

Police said Sadiq led operatives to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle allegedly used in the attack, as well as 24 rounds of live ammunition.

The suspect also named two accomplices, Jalo Hamiyu, 35, and Umar Baba, 41, both residents of Fotta Village in Gombi Local Council.

According to the command, a joint team of police operatives, hunters and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force later moved to the suspects’ hideouts.

“Upon sighting police operatives, they opened fire to scare the operatives and escape arrest, which led to a gun duel that resulted in the neutralisation of the two suspects,” the police said.

Exhibits recovered at the scene included a locally made single-barrel rifle and a Dane gun.

The command said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the criminal network.
