The acting Rector of The Polytechnic Ibadan (TPI), Dr Taiwo Lasisi, has charged the newly matriculated students of the institution to avoid negative attitudes and associations that could jeopardise their future.
He gave the warning during the 2025/2026 matriculation ceremony held at the 1000-seater lecture theatre of the institution.
Lasisi emphasised that involvement in unlawful activities, relationships, and associations would attract severe penalties, including suspension or outright expulsion.
He urged the students to take their registration process seriously, warning that failure to complete registration would lead to extra semesters or even loss of studentship.
“Ensure you know and follow up the state of your registration on your portal so that your cafe will not deprive you of your studentship with the failure to remit your money to the portal for further processing by the institution,” he stated.
The Rector appealed to parents and guardians to monitor their wards’ activities, noting that any bad behaviour exhibited by the students would reflect poorly on their home training and family reputation.
He stressed that the institution has zero tolerance for cultism, thuggery, or any form of violence, and that minor offences would be handled internally, while major offences would be referred to law enforcement for prosecution.
Lasisi assured the students that the institution has facilities and activities in place to make their academic and social programmes memorable, including well-stocked libraries, equipped departments, and sporting facilities.
He expressed appreciation to the Visitor to the institution, Governor Seyi Makinde, for his continuous support, noting that the school has maintained its position as a first-choice institution due to the governor’s unwavering commitment to the institution’s growth and development.
“TPI has maintained its position as a first-choice institution by prospective students as well as the doyen of other polytechnics because we have a Governor that is our mainframe,” he said.
