Bauchi State Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Yakubu Adamu, was received with drums, dance and fanfare at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport on Thursday, following his arrival in the state a week after securing bail from the Federal High Court in a terrorism financing suit.
Adamu has been facing trial since December 13, 2025, when he was arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He was accused of approving $2.3m for certain individuals, which the commission claimed were linked to terrorist organisations.
Thousands of supporters, family members, friends and well-wishers took to the streets to welcome him on his return from Abuja. Adamu arrived in the state on Thursday evening, accompanied by supporters in branded T-shirts, posters on hundreds of tricycles, and motorcycles converging at different parts of Bauchi metropolis, where he was received with prayers and chants, expressions of confidence in his innocence and solidarity as the legal proceedings continue.
Some supporters who spoke to newsmen described the court’s decision to grant bail as a positive development and urged the public to remain calm and allow the judicial process to take its course.
Addressing the gathering later at his family residence, Adamu expressed his appreciation to the people of Bauchi State and others for their prayers and support throughout the trial.
He called on his supporters to remain law-abiding and to continue to respect constituted authorities. “This is a trial from God, and it shall pass. I thank you for unwavering support and solidarity.”
The commissioner also urged residents of the state to continue supporting the administration of Governor Bala Mohammed in its efforts to fast-track development across the state.
The case remains before the Federal High Court, and Adamu is expected to continue complying with the bail conditions. The Court granted him bail of N100 million last week, ordered him to submit his international passport, and to report to the state office of the Department of Security Services (DSS) every Monday as the trial progresses.
