As we move into February, let’s stay focused, remain consistent, and keep working towards our 2026 goals one step at a time. Here is your guide to this weekend, with events to attend, things to do, books to read, new places to relax, podcasts to listen to, and films to watch.

Events this weekend

If you want high-energy fun, Water Wave Party is your plug. Head to WosAm Arena, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State, on Saturday night and expect loud music, wet outfits, and carefree vibes. This is for people who want to dance hard, stay out late, and feel the rush of a proper party crowd.

If you prefer something more chilled but still fun, try Karaoke Night at Grotto Lagos. It holds every Sunday from 7 PM to 15 Ashabi Cole Street, Ikeja. The mic is open, the mood is playful, and the crowd is usually warm. You do not need to sound perfect; you just need the courage to pick a song and enjoy yourself.

For a softer plan, Zenergy Brunch is the place to be. Think calm music, beautiful views, stylish guests, and slow conversations. This is for people who want to unwind, take photos, sip drinks, and enjoy the weekend without pressure.

If you want something meaningful beyond outings, the Future Focus Masterclass is worth your time. It is a free four-day virtual programme for creators who want to grow, gain visibility and earn better. This is not for vibes. This is for people who are serious about their future.

What to watch this weekend

Cinemas are busy this weekend, with Alive Till Dawn, Everything Is New Again, Primate, Mardaani 3, Send Help and Shelter all opening from January 30. The lineup cuts across horror, romance, action and thriller, which means there is something for every mood, whether you want tension, emotion, or pure escapism.

Alive Till Dawn, directed by Sulaiman Omotola Ogegbe, throws viewers straight into chaos as a zombie outbreak traps a police officer, ex-convicts, and a stranded girl inside a building. Fear grows by the minute. Trust breaks down. And survival becomes the only focus.

Everything Is New Again takes a softer but relatable route. Chinaza Onuzo tells the story of Funmi, a 45-year-old woman who begins to rebuild her life after heartbreak goes public. Mercy Aigbe, Nancy Isime, Abayomi Alvin and the rest of the cast bring warmth to a story about healing, desire, and choosing yourself again without shame.

Thriller lovers are spoiled this weekend. Primate turns a house party into a survival horror after a pet chimpanzee becomes violent. Mardaani 3 sees Rani Mukerji return as a relentless officer racing to save missing girls. Shelter follows a recluse whose life collapses after rescuing a girl from the sea. Send Help, directed by Sam Raimi, follows two colleagues trapped on a deserted island after a plane crash and forces them into a psychological battle of survival, pride, and unresolved grudges.

On streaming, Anikulapo: The Ghoul Awakens is now live on Netflix, and the second season of Kunle Afolayan’s epic Yoruba series is already pulling attention for its darker tone and deeper power struggles.

Where to catch sunsets

Some evenings simply need a good view and a calm space. Mercury Lagos gives that quiet, polished feel where you can actually hear yourself think. Circa Non Pareil feels intimate and soft, perfect for slow conversations. Túraká Lagos is more laid back, the kind of place you go when you want ease, not pressure.

If you like pretty spaces and skyline moments, Sora Lagos delivers on both: great light, good angles, and an easy mood. Haven 11 feels like a spot you discover once and keep to yourself. Go early, order a drink, sit still, and watch the sky change. That is the real experience.

Meanwhile, the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) resort in Ibadan offers a serene, secure, and nature-focused getaway that’s ideal for activities like biking, swimming, and forest walks.
