•ADC meets Obidient movement
Governorship aspirant in Imo State, Obioma Success Akagburuonye, has stated that his aspiration to lead the state is driven by a desire to serve, accountability, and the need to build upon existing governance legacies rather than personal ambition.
Speaking on Sunday during an interaction with journalists, Akagburuonye dismissed suggestions that his independence and personal success could make him unacceptable to the political establishment, insisting that credible leadership and proven capacity should inspire confidence rather than suspicion.
According to him, governance should focus on continuity and value addition, noting that infrastructure development, particularly roads and power, remains central to his vision for Imo State.
Akagburuonye said that his record as a private individual demonstrates what could be achieved with public authority and institutional support.
He argued that financially independent leaders are less likely to misuse public funds, adding that public office should be about stewardship rather than enrichment.
He maintained that accountability in government becomes easier when leaders are not driven by personal gain.
Meanwhile, the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Imo State has met with the Obidient Movement, a volunteer group for the actualisation of Peter Obi’s presidential ambition.
The meeting, held at the ADC office in Owerri, focused on integrating the group into the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Receiving the group, the State Chairman of the party, Prof. James Okoroma, said the meeting was “crucial as it will provide opportunities for deepening opposition collaboration and broadening reform-oriented political participation across the state.
He noted that part of the discussions centred on partnership, grassroots expansion, and integration of the movement into the party’s structure statewide.
