Kwara killings must stop, says Senator Natasha

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has condemned the recent killings in parts of Kwara State, warning that the repeated loss of innocent lives has become intolerable and demanding immediate, concrete action from authorities.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the senator expressed deep sorrow over the attacks and offered condolences to families and communities shattered by the violence, describing the situation as a direct challenge to the state’s responsibility to protect its citizens.

“The continued killing of innocent Nigerians is unacceptable,” she said. “Families are being torn apart by violence that should never be allowed to persist. Protecting lives and delivering justice must not be optional.”

She urged the federal and Kwara State governments to act decisively, stressing that security assurances must translate into visible results on the ground. According to her, prompt and credible investigations into the attacks are essential to restoring public confidence and deterring further violence.

“Those responsible must be found and held accountable,” Akpoti-Uduaghan said. “Failure to do so only reinforces a culture of impunity and leaves communities exposed,” she said.

The senator said security agencies and political leaders have a constitutional and moral obligation to prevent further bloodshed, calling for intelligence-driven operations, stronger collaboration with local communities, and measures that address the underlying drivers of insecurity.

“These killings are a painful reminder that our security framework must work for the people,” she said. “No Nigerian should live in fear in their own home,” she said.

Her comments come amid rising concern over persistent violence in several parts of the country, with citizens increasingly questioning the effectiveness of existing security responses.

Akpoti-Uduaghan reaffirmed her commitment to advancing legislative measures that strengthen national security, insisting that Nigeria cannot make meaningful progress while the safety of its people remains uncertain.
