Jamz FR’s delightful blend of genres, lyrics

Jamzy Vibe

With a clear and firm understanding of the audience’s expectations, industry realities, and personal artistic identity, Jamz FR’s sound comfortably sits within the rhythms that move bodies and dominate nightlife spaces.

For her, music has always been part of her world. Her mother was her first DJ, the type who always had a song playing around the house. From Afrobeats and R&B to old-school pop, Jamz grew up surrounded by rhythm and melody.

“Growing up, I remember I always loved to sing, but a lot of it boils down to the fact that my parents are very musical people, so there’s always music in the house. Like, the radio is never off.  Even to this day, with the advancements in technology, there’s a radio in my house, and it’s always on. Those early sounds shaped my ears, long before I ever stepped into a studio,” Jamz FR said.

With a combination of Asa’s soul, Wande Coal’s smooth vocals, Tiwa’s power, Wizkid’s calm, Burna’s grit, and Davido’s energy, but Asa wittingly setting her up for a career in music, Jamz FR’s journey towards professional music-making started to take shape in 2020 in the wake of the COVID-19.

Stuck at home like the rest of the world, she started cover songs she resonated with. It took a year before she’d build the confidence to start posting them on social channels. When she summoned the courage to start posting monthly in 2021, fans of her distinctive indie-pop riffs on popular hits slowly started to trickle in.

According to her, moving to Lagos from Benin City where she was raised, in 2022 for an internship, helped her get closer to the entertainment nexus of the country. She caught wind of a recording camp advertisement. “I made sure I was going to do my IT in Lagos, because I needed that connect.” she said.

Her production choices, delivery, and melodies that often revel in a delightful blend of genres, lyrics that strike deeply, yet remain beautifully subtle, and a voice as light as a feather dancing on the breeze, show a clear awareness of what resonates with a youthful, energetic audience. She brings a refreshing new perspective to an industry that often feels stuck in tradition.

Rather than choose to focus or remain in one lane permanently, the Jamzy Vibe hitmaker moves fluidly between both worlds, allowing her discography to breathe. This approach positions her not just as an entertainer, but as a storyteller who understands timing. She knows when to make people dance, and when to make them listen.

Jamz FR’s tutelage in Benin also left its mark on her. The city’s culture is expressive; people speak with their hands, tone, and hearts. She channels that same intensity into her music, as her songs reflect real life, confidence, growth, joy, friendship, and all the chaos that comes with living.

As Nigerian music continues its global ascent, and the tension between commercial appeal and emotional depth becomes one of its defining creative struggles, Jamz FR’s journey reflects a wider evolution in Nigerian music.
