Troops neutralise 16 insurgents in Borno offensive, overrun terror camp

Rescued Victims

Troops of the North-East Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), have neutralised 16 Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in the Garin Kaji–Komala axis of Konduga Local Council, Borno State.

The operation, carried out on February 9, 2026, was conducted in collaboration with the Civilian JTF along the southern fringe of the Sambisa Forest in the council.

OPHK Media Information Officer, Lt-Col. Sani Uba, disclosed yesterday that superior firepower by ground troops led to the neutralisation of several insurgents in their hideouts. He added that the troops launched follow-on counter-offensives against fleeing terrorists in the Timbuktu Triangle of the Sambisa Forest.

Uba stated: “These decisive actions of troops have significantly degraded terrorists’ capabilities by disrupting their logistics,” reaffirming OPHK’s commitment to dismantling terrorist networks across the North-East.

In a related development, he said troops, working with the Civilian JTF, launched another counter-offensive along the Komala axis in Konduga Local Council and engaged retreating insurgents up to the Gidan Kaji area.

“The surviving insurgents were forced to flee in disarray with severe gunshot wounds,” he said.

Items recovered from the terrorists included arms and ammunition, 20 bicycles and large quantities of logistics supplies.

Meanwhile, troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, under Operation Igbo Idanu 1, launched a surprise foot assault on a terrorist network linked to kingpins Kachalla Ibrahim and Shu’aibu, overrunning a key camp and recovering ammunition.

The army said the troops advanced through dense forest and marshy terrain marked by fallen trees and riverine obstacles. Despite restricted vehicular movement, the soldiers dismounted and advanced on foot to achieve tactical surprise.

“The operation resulted in the recovery of 2,000 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm ammunition and a box of high velocity grenades, significantly degrading the group’s logistics. Following the takeover, the camp was destroyed and set ablaze to prevent reoccupation,” the military said.

The army added that the operation was led by the Commander, 12 Brigade, Brig Gen Kasim Umar Sidi, who coordinated the ground manoeuvre into the terrorists’ enclave. Troops reportedly penetrated the camp undetected, forcing the terrorists to flee on sighting the advancing forces.
