LagRide deploys 400 vehicles as Lagos prepares for Ember months

LagRide is expanding its fleet in Lagos with 400 new vehicles and plans to bring more than 1,000 additional Captains onto its platform by December, as it prepares for increased movement during the Ember months.

The company said the expansion is expected to support more than 200,000 rides between September and December, when business activities, tourism, entertainment, airport traffic and end-of-year events typically increase movement across Lagos.

More than 100 Captains drove out in newly deployed vehicles at the LagRide 2026 Driver Mobilisation and Fleet Flag-Off held at the company’s centre in Alausa. According to them, the remaining vehicles will be introduced in phases.

LagRide’s Executive Director, Mildred Ekanem, said the company already had more than 2,000 vehicles operating across Lagos, with the latest deployment forming part of its immediate expansion.

“We already have over 2,000 LagRide vehicles on the road across Lagos, and we are expanding from that position of strength,” Ekanem said.

She said the company was targeting more than 1,000 additional Captains before December to improve availability and coverage as demand increases.

The expansion will extend LagRide’s presence to areas including FESTAC, Ikorodu and Ajah, while additional Captains will be deployed in existing locations to reduce waiting times.

The company also plans to introduce discounted rides, rewards and other promotions from September to December, including campaigns linked to major events and the December entertainment season.

Chairman of LagRide, Chief Diana Chen, said the expansion was also aimed at strengthening the company’s role in Lagos’ transport and tourism activities.

“LagRide is the face of transportation and tourism in Lagos,” Chen said, adding that the company was creating opportunities for professional Captains while increasing vehicle availability for residents and visitors.

As part of the expansion, more Captains are expected to participate in the company’s Drive-to-Own programme. Under the scheme, Captains begin with a 90-day rental period before they can move towards vehicle ownership, subject to performance requirements.

LagRide said its 24-hour customer service centre would remain available for complaints and enquiries, while maintenance support would be provided through facilities operated by CIG Group and GAC Motor. Its Alausa facility serves as an express service centre for LagRide vehicles.

The company said its existing safety measures, including vehicle insurance, dashboard cameras and panic buttons, would remain in place as the fleet expands.

LagRide’s Director of Public Relations, Ifeanyi Abraham, urged the newly inducted Captains to maintain professionalism and good customer service, saying they represented both the company and Lagos whenever they interacted with passengers.
