Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors, the law firm representing Sophia Momodu in the custody dispute over Imade Adeleke, has issued a formal statement defending its partner, Mrs Ebelechukwu Egeonu Enedah, following a series of social media posts by singer Davido, who recently announced that he had decided to discontinue his suit.
In a statement shared on X, the firm said it had taken note of what it described as inflammatory public comments directed at Mrs Enedah in connection with a custody matter currently pending before a court of competent jurisdiction in Lagos State.
“Our attention has been drawn to all manner of inflammatory public statements chiefly engineered by a Nigerian Afrobeat artiste, via social media, directed at our Partner, Mrs Ebelechukwu Egeonu Enedah, arising from her professional conduct in a custody matter presently pending before a court of competent jurisdiction in Lagos State,” the statement read.
The firm stressed that the matter is sub judice and would be determined by the court based solely on evidence and law. It stated that no amount of public commentary would influence the judicial process or its approach to the case.
“In keeping with the highest professional conduct, no statements on the substance of the case will be issued by us,” it added.
However, Punuka Attorneys warned against what it characterised as attempts to threaten or intimidate legal practitioners for carrying out their duties.
“If legal practitioners are to be threatened, intimidated, or exposed to harassment outside the courtroom for asking questions, testing evidence, or discharging their professional duty to their clients, then the very foundation of justice is imperiled,” the firm stated.
It further declared that when counsel is forced to weigh personal safety against professional responsibility, the rule of law itself is weakened.
The firm said it would deploy every lawful measure available to resist any attempt to undermine judicial proceedings or intimidate its partner.
“We call upon the Nigerian Bar Association and lawyers globally to rise up in one voice to condemn this aberration and gross violation of our profession,” the statement concluded.
The development follows a series of online posts by Davido after the court session in his custody dispute with Momodu.
The singer had earlier announced that he was withdrawing his case, stating on social media that he had sought joint custody of his daughter, not full custody.
In the posts on his official accounts, Davido criticised Mrs Enedah, alleging that she raised issues in court that he considered inappropriate. He also tagged her directly and accused her of unprofessional conduct during proceedings.
The online outburst escalated when the singer mistakenly identified gospel artiste Tosinbee, whose real name is Adejumobi Oluwatosin, as the lawyer’s son.
Tosinbee later clarified on Instagram that he had no relationship with the lawyer and that his mother had passed away eight years ago. He said the situation was a case of mistaken identity and expressed support for Davido despite the error.
Davido subsequently apologised publicly, writing, “I apologize! My bad G.”
The dispute between Davido and Sophia Momodu has played out both in court and on social media over the years.
In November 2025, Momodu addressed the issue publicly, stating that she has been Imade’s primary caregiver for the past five years.
She said she has handled all of her daughter’s expenses, with the exception of school fees, which she noted have been covered by the child’s paternal grandfather for the past three years.
Momodu also stated that she has not received child support from the singer during that period.
Despite this, she maintained that her daughter “knows no lack” and is growing up in a healthy and supportive environment.
